Enigin News - What the President Did Say on Energy Efficiency in his Address

IN HIS State of the Union U.S. President Barack Obama admitted it wouldn’t be possible to pass climate change legislation, although he touched on energy efficiency and clean energy.

As we reported earlier, there were calls for Obama to follow through on hoped for legislation on energy efficiency and he has nodded towards it.

He said that energy efficiency is central to his proposals, including measures to help manufacturers eliminate energy waste in their factories and provide incentives for building energy efficiency upgrades.

“Energy bills will be $100 billion lower over the next decade, and America will have less pollution, more manufacturing, more jobs for construction workers who need them,” he promised.

He also stated that the plans will provide the US with “a future where we’re in control of our own energy, and our security and prosperity”.

He also promised to work towards a clean energy standard to generate a market for innovation, adding that his administration will allow the development of enough clean energy on public land to power three million homes. He also promised that the Department of Defense “will make one of the largest commitments to clean energy in history” in the form of a Navy purchase order for enough capacity to power a quarter of a million homes a year.
