Enigin News - U.S. Grants For Energy Efficiency Plus Job Creation

The US government’s commitment towards environmental issues has been put in the spot light this week.

The PEERS Group (Program for Energy Efficiency Through Responsible Stimulus), is a grassroots initiative that seeks matching government funds for existing state and utility energy efficiency rebates, the PEERS Committee is headed by the interNational Association of Lighting Management Companies (NALMCO), and they are encouraging, for obvious reasons, the US federal government to direct money towards retrofit of energy efficient devices.

"We are asking the government to direct $16 Billion of the ARRA stimulus act's (The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act) nearly $800 Billion to support energy efficiency retrofit programs,” said Jim Frank, President of NALMCO.

Frank added:

“These additional rebates will help business owners retrofit their facilities with energy efficient equipment that will lower utility bills and reduce the cost of doing business.

“The PEERS initiative provides a proven conduit for stimulus dollars to enter the economy, produce measurable results, create jobs, reduce pollution and increase our nation's energy independence."

This stimulus is of interest to all US businesses looking to save money through energy efficiency – it saves money and jobs as well as economic recovery, as PEERS Steering Committee Chairman Randy Breske admitted:

“The PEERS initiative has the potential to generate thousands of new energy efficient projects across the country, each of which brings tangible benefits for business owners, the economy and the public.”

U.S. commerce, industry stands to benefit if their government provides the stimulus for retrofitting of energy efficient equipment. The majority of businesses are housed in older buildings, with few in the current climate looking to move into new build energy efficient properties, leading to the importance of making their current locations energy efficient.

Enigin can help businesses and the public sector to become energy efficient in new buildings as well as old and welcome any government initiatives that can help their clients.
