Enigin News - Tough Energy Saving Rules for Caloocan City Employees

THE Filipino city of Caloocan, part of metropolitan Manila and just north of the city, is to apply strict measures in its energy conservation program, which will force all city government offices to save on its bills.

The City Mayor, Enrico “Recom” Echiverri, said :

“Besides the savings we make from paying the local government utility bills it also helps to solve our problems we face through climate change.”

Under the directive employees in local government offices will have to switch off their air-conditioning for an hour at noon, only being allowed to use air-conditioning between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m., and then again between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.

City hall workers are also banned from using office computers if they are not needed as part of their official duties, such as using office computers for leisure activities, such as social networking, chat rooms and playing games.

Even the use of appliances, such as rice cookers, ovens and toasters, is now a no-no in local offices.

Disobeying the Mayor’s directives will bring penalties, with the perpetrators being made an example of, so other city hall employees can realise the importance of saving electricity.
