Enigin News - Sri Lanka to Focus on Energy Saving

THE Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority (SLSEA) is to host the Vidulka Energy Week energy saving exhibition next month in Colombo.

The exhibition will inform Sri Lankans about energy conservation and will also address concerns and questions of energy professionals, the energy industries, academics and the general public.

The exhibition will be structured into three main components, the national energy conservation awards, an energy exhibition and a five- day energy symposium or conference.

National Energy Efficiency Awards presented by President Mahinda Rajapaksa, will be made to members of commerce and industry that have achieved the highest level of energy conservation. There will be 15 awards presented under the categories of manufacturing, hotels, commercial , public sector, office buildings and healthcare services.

The conference will be themed around five sub-themes, including presentations by schoolchildren, energy management, renewable energy and green energy, plus the presentation of research papers and energy efficient lighting practices.

Power and Energy Minister Partali Champika Ranawaka commented on the present energy crisis faced by Sri Lanka, stating that more power generation projects will not needed if people will adopt energy conservation measures promoted by the SLSEA.

An awareness program is to be carried out nationwide to encourage energy conservation measures in schools, with energy conservation already included in the school science syllabus in secondary schools.
