Enigin News - Report Reveals Importance of Energy Efficiency to the Economy

A NEW report released in the USA by the Centre for American Progress highlights the economic sense of focussing on energy efficiency as a way to create jobs, produce capacity in power supply and save money.

The report features a top 10 list of US states that the authors believe are leaders in creating energy efficiency markets:

1. Connecticut
2. California
3. Maryland
4. Massachusetts
5. Pennsylvania
6. New York
7. Texas
8. North Carolina
9. New Jersey
10. Ohio

The authors also state:

"But make no mistake no state has fully developed the potential of their energy efficiency market to create clean energy jobs, let alone the federal government."

In a press conference held this morning, US Senator Harry Reid said the US Congress will try again to pass a modest energy bill that promotes energy savings.

Report co-author Bill Campbell was complimentary to Nevada, California, Utah, New York and New England states for their leadership in recognising energy efficiency as a vital source of energy and lot easier to achieve than new power generation and grids.

Bracken Hendricks, Senior Fellow at the Center for American Progress Action Fund, commented that the report shows how a number of states are using smart energy policies already and by so doing are making their economies more competitive.

The report also stated the following:

"As a country, the United States substantially lags behind our closest economic competitors in the energy efficiency of our economy. We believe the examples presented in this paper can set the stage for a powerful new national energy efficiency strategy, which fixes market barriers to unleash entrepreneurs, investment, and innovation."
