Enigin News - Local Authority Aims to Save Millions through Energy Efficiency

Bury, a medium sized town in Greater Manchester, North West England, is aiming to save millions through energy efficiency.

Bury's local authority has unveiled plans to divert greater attention to cheap energy usage and sustainability.

Bury Council said it plans to reduce its carbon emissions by 35 per cent by 2014 and reduce bills from energy suppliers by £7 million.

The local authority is adopting a carbon management plan to improve its cheap energy usage and efficiency.

The energy efficiency measures are aimed for a number of establishments, particularly schools, which account for more than half of the CO2 from all council buildings.

Councillor Dorothy Gunther, executive member for environment and transport, said: "We aim to reduce wasted energy and use power as efficiently as we can.

"These actions are not only physical improvements to buildings and systems but there are large energy and CO2 savings to be made by changing the way we work and manage our workplaces."
