Enigin News - Jamaica's Energy Efficiency Project gets World Bank Funds

JAMAICA’S Energy Minister James Robertson announced that $2.5 million from the World Bank is to be used to drive energy efficiency within the island’s private sector.
Robertson said the purpose of the funding, from the he World Bank's World Energy Security and Efficiency Project, is to ultimately ensure access to and utilisation of energy efficient and renewable equipment, within the private sector.
The funding will be used to finance a pilot energy efficiency revolving grant facility, with grant funds to be sourced, as needed, from the Global Environmental Facility and the Multi-lateral Fund for Implementation of the Montreal Protocol.
Robertson indicated that if the pilot is successful, additional resources will be available:
"We have applied for additional funding from the World Bank for up to $4.5 million for this and other programmes. We anticipate approval as soon as the current initiatives prove successful," Robertson stated.
Enhancing energy efficiency is a major component under the World Bank's loan financing arrangements to support the implementation of the Jamaican government's national Energy Policy 2009 - 2030.
Robertson explained that targets for energy use reduction for large commercial and manufacturing enterprises are being established, with some companies to be designated “energy management facilities” and will need to appoint an energy manager, have updated energy audits and implement a system of tracking and reporting energy use.
"I want to indicate that (for) all the initiatives and programmes, everybody is included and eligible, commercial and industry users, energy service companies, and manufacturers of energy efficiency equipment and devices," he concluded.
Enigin Distributors have the perfect solutions to fulfill these needs, with Enigin PLC's Eniscope offering real-time energy management and graphical monitoring of energy use allowing for easy energy use tracking, leading to effective energy saving strategies to be employed.
