Enigin News - Energy Efficiency to be the Focus for North Carolina

A report focused on North Carolina in the U.S. has been published by the Washington D.C based, non-profit American Council for an Energy-Efficiency Economy (ACEEE). The report highlights the potential for the fastest growing state in the nation to save its residents and businesses billions of dollars over the next decade.
The recommendation has been made to adopt a number of common-sense policies to save energy, improve efficiency and invest in more clean-energy research.
"Adoption of the energy efficiency policies suggested in this report would put the state on the path to greater economic, energy, and environmental sustainability," says Maggie Eldridge, ACEEE's lead researcher for the report.

This is a turning point for North Carolinas energy future, currently ranking 26 out of 50 states in ACEEE's "The 2009 State Energy Efficiency Scorecard,"
The state has taken some steps to encourage the development of less polluting energy sources. However, the ACEEE’s report finds that there is still significant potential for North Carolinas energy efficiency to improve.
Among the new policies recommended, the ACEEE recommends that North Caroline set a statewide goal for long-term energy savings. This would spur the creation of programs and create incentives to businesses to make energy-saving improvements to offices and industrial facilities. This would result in money saving that can then be reinvested in the state’s economy.
North Carolina have been encouraged to enhance their state position as a global leader in technological innovation, encouraging industry leaders, universities, research facilities and policymakers to boost energy efficiency, clean energy innovation, energy saving and business development.
