Enigin News - EDRD Provide Energy Efficiency Funding to Macedonia

AS PART of their ongoing sustainability programme the EBRD is funding energy efficiency improvements at one of Macedonia’s largest meat processing companies with a 1.3 million Euro loan.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will support MIK Sveti Nikole meat processing company with the loan to finance energy efficiency measures along with modernisation of their factory’s energy system.

Elena Urumovska, Head of EBRD’s Resident Office in Skopje said regarding the loan:

“Reducing energy intensity of economies is a key priority for the EBRD and we are pleased to support MIK Sveti Nikole in improving its energy efficiency.

“The project will help the company comply with EU environmental standards and set a positive example to other FYR Macedonian businesses.”

The EBRD money will facilitate the implementation of a number of energy efficiency measures in the company’s production facilities, such as an energy management system.

Through the project MIK Sveti Nikole will cut its energy consumption radically and reduce their C02 emissions, allowing the company to reduce its maintenance and operational costs, while minimising their environmental pollution and improving their overall competitiveness.

Enigin Distributors in the Balkans, and elsewhere, have one of the most advanced energy management systems available to businesses in the shape of Enigin PLC's Eniscope, which provides real-time energy data along with comprehensive historical records of where and when energy is being used and wasted. This data is vital in making effective energy saving decisions, saving money and green house gas emissions through wise energy use.

The financing comes from the EBRD’s €50 million Western Balkans Sustainable Energy Direct Financing Facility (WeBSEDFF), which was launched last year to help finance energy efficiency and renewable energy projects for Balkans based small and medium enterprises.

Across central and eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States the EBRD has directly committed more than 6 billion Euros to the agribusiness sector alone, covering over 400 projects.

In FYR Macedonia, the EBRD has committed more than 540 million Euros to over 40 projects in key sectors of country’s economy, kick-starting additional investment totalling more than 663 million Euros.
