Enigin News - China's Long Term Energy Efficiency Commitment

ENERGY efficiency, conservation and environmental protection are long term goals for China according to Vice-Premier Li Keqiang ahead of this weeks UN climate change summit in Durban.

Li also highlighted that apart from a long term goal energy efficiency is also an urgent practical option for the country as the global economic situation is ever more complicated, with the chances for a longer term downturn more likely.

Added to the economic imperatives energy efficiency and environmental protection is in harmony with China's economic development transition plans.

Li said during the sixth China-Japan forum on energy-saving and environment protection in Beijing: "To maintain robust growth, it's a necessity to innovate the mode of development and nurture new driving forces."

Li added that structural adjustment and transformation is necessary to maintain the quality of China’s economic growth by promoting energy efficiency, reducing consumption and emissions.

Many countries are looking at ways to keep their economies progressing in these difficult times while promoting a green economy. Promoting energy efficiency and environmental issues, across all sectors of society, is a strategic task, as well as a practical urgent option for China, Li said.

Energy conservation and environmental protection will be a key "breakthrough point" for China's economic transformation and is beneficial to forming new driving forces.
