Enigin News - Biden Announces $80 Billion Initiative in Energy Efficiency

U.S. Vice President Joe Biden on the eve of Earth Day sought to highlight the U.S. administration's efforts to improve the environment.
Biden said the $80 billion in clean energy investments included in the economic stimulus and recovery bill marked the largest single investment in such technology in the nation's history.
"The world already is transforming… to a new energy economy," Biden said. "The question is, are we going to lead it or are we going to continue to try to catch up? We are going to be left behind. We need to catch up."
He added, "But we're not just doing this with government funds. We're using government to provide the seed money to grow private industries."
Biden announced a new "Retrofit Ramp-Up" program aimed at encouraging owners of commercial buildings and homeowners to seek additional energy savings and efficiency measures.
"It's about making our office buildings more efficient and more comfortable and more affordable," he said. "Retrofitting -- small stuff, but big, big, big savings."
